Midnight on Saturday is the deadline for this year’s road taxes to be renewed, the road transport department has announced before reminding that late renewals are subject to a fine.
Road circulation permits can be renewed for a period of three, six, nine and 12 months either online, at citizen support centres, district post offices and transport department offices. Applicants must submit a certificate of MOT and valid insurance.
The Road Transport Department’s Vladimiros Zavros told Philenews that since the beginning of this month the rate of renewals has doubled – reaching 25,000 per day.
He then urged “citizens not to wait for the very last day” before settling any outstanding issues. So far, the process has been completed for 80% of Cyprus’ cars, he said.
“We reached 565,000 renewals by Monday, and we expect these to soon exceed 700,000,” he added. By Wednesday, March 1, a total of €55 million had been collected from renewals.
A €10 euro fine plus an additional 10 per cent of the value of the road permit for the current year is the penalty for late renewals.
