An avid walker and volunteer, Alexis Sofocleous, will attempt a 700km walk around Cyprus entitled “Cyprus, Step by Step” to raise awareness on the importance of prevention for a healthy life both mentally and physically.

The hike will be broadcast live on the day through a Facebook page of the same name created for the purpose and anyone can tune in and watch.

“I’ve been practising for the past eight months to reach this level to be able to do it,” the 51-year-old told In-Cyprus.

“Last autumn I had a lucid dream of me walking by the beach. All I remember is that the sea was on my right and I could feel the wind in my face. I could not get it out of my mind so I decided to embark on this long journey,” he added.

The hike is set to begin on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at 9.30 am from the Lebay Hotel beach in Oroklini and is expected to last around 30 days to finish where it started on Monday March 23, 2020.

The event is being held under the auspices of Volunteerism and NGO Commissioner Yiannis Yiannakis, and is sponsored by numerous entities from the private sector.
