Cyprus Covid-19 measures on ‘right track’ says ECDC

Relevant News

Measures adopted by Cyprus to contain the coronavirus outbreak are on the right track, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) has indicated.

This follows a tele-conference between Health Minister Constantinos Ioannou and the head of the ECDC Dr Andrea Ammon and other officials during which the minister outlined the measures being taken here.

The ECDC head said these were in the right direction and welcomed the fact that Cyprus was continuing to trace the contacts of coronavirus cases, saying that it remains one of the few countries that continue to investigate and check, both in a targeted way through tracing and in the wider population.

Ioannou also briefed the ECDC about the decision to carry out tests among 800 people through a random sample, and also 20,000 others working in the private and public sector and the national guard who are still working and therefore have a higher risk of contagion.

Dr Ammon said this was an important initiative which will serve as a valuable tool for Cyprus and the ECDC.

As regards easing the restrictive measures, she said that it was took early to be discussing this issue and any relaxation must be done in stages.
