Coronavirus: Cruise ship with suspect case not coming to Limassol after all (updated)

A cruise ship with a suspect coronavirus case will not be stopping in Limassol after all, Transport Minister Yiannis Karousos said late on Thursday night.

In a message on Twitter the minister said that the cruise ship had informed authorities it will not be makingĀ  a stop in Cyprus.

In an earlier tweet on Thursday night, Karousos had said that at the instructions of President Nicos Anastasiades the ship will remain at the anchorage of Limassol port and there was no question of passengers disembarking.

Earlier CyBB had reported that a Ā cruise ship with about 800 passengers aboard, one of whom has symptoms similar to those of coronavirus was expected in Limassol tomorrow.

CyBC said the ship has been turned away from other ports, most recently from Israel. Most of the passengers are understood to be Italian.

According to CyBC Transport Ministry and Health Ministry officials were in touch with the crew.

KarousosĀ  had tweeted that at the instructions of President Anastasiades the ship would remain at the anchorage of Limassol port and there was no question of passengers disembarking.

“As regards the issue of the health of a passenger we are in contact with the Health Ministry to handle it,” he added.
