Continued access to GHS even if residence/work permits expire

Relevant News

General health scheme beneficiaries whose residence or work permit has expired or will expire before September 30 will continue to receive the service until that date, the Health Insurance Organisation (HIO) has assured.

The HIO issued an announcement informing non-Cypriot citizens who are legally residents in Cyprus that:

1.Existing GHS Beneficiaries’ re-evaluation of the right of access to GHS services on the basis of a valid Residence/Work Permit, is suspended until September 30, 2020. This measure is taken due to the extenuating circumstances prevailing as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic and the measures taken by the Population and Migration Department where scheduled or new appointments for the purpose of examining Residence/Work Permit renewals have been canceled.

2. In this respect, GHS Beneficiaries whose Residence/Work Permit has recently expired or expires before September 30, 2020, will continue to receive services up and until the above date. The purpose of the HIO is to provide Beneficiaries with unhindered access to health services and without being affected by the particular conditions created by the pandemic on the operation of various government departments and services. The above date may be revised in the light of new developments.

3. Notwithstanding the above, affected persons are informed that while they will be receiving, relevant re-evaluation notifications via the GHS IT System, where they will be required to submit their renewed Residence/Work Permits for the purpose of reassessing their right to GHS services, these shall be informative. Their inability to respond will not lead to the removal of their GHS Beneficiary status.
