Church will strictly implement rules, archbishop assures

Relevant News

The church will make sure that hygiene protocols are strictly implemented when members of the public go to pray.

The assurance was given by Archbishop Chrysostomos to President Nicos Anastasiades today — first day of the gradual relaxation of the lockdown.

Under the new measures, members of the public can go to places of worship to pray but there must not be more than 10 people inside at any given moment.

The archbishop last week sent a circular to the clergy and church committees outlining the health and hygiene measures they must comply with during this transitional phase.

In a written statement, deputy government spokesman Panayiotis Sentonas said the president and the archbishop had spoken by phone today.

Sentonas said the archbishop had assured the president that when the faithful go to worship,  the Church of Cyprus will ensure strict implementation of the hygiene protocols as set out by the Health Ministry.
