CABS find two bird trapping sites in Anafotia

Relevant News

A team from the Committee Against Bird Slaughter (CABS) patrolling near the village of Anafotia in the Larnaca district found two active bird trapping sites with limesticks and callers, the NGO said on its Facebook page.

The NGO informed the  Game and Fauna Service and escorted them to both sites.

At the first site, they found 14 limesticks and three blackcaps had been caught.

On the site, they found 11 limesticks and one house sparrow which had been caught.

“Thankfully the traps were discovered fast so the birds did not suffer for a long time on the limesticks. We carefully released the birds and all trapping paraphernalia was confiscated. Unfortunately, the perpetrator was not caught on this occasion,” CABS added.

Meanwhile, the Avian Conservation and Education Network has added its voice to the campaign against illegal bird trapping Cyprus.

It notes that the mass trapping of blackcaps and other song birds in Cyprus is not gastronomic but ecological.
