British national Paul Lounder, 76, who permanently lived in Cyprus died on Wednesday evening after being run over in Peyia by a rented car driven by an American woman.
Lounder was trying to cross Ayios Georgios Avenue when he got hit by the rental around 17:45 on Wednesday.
The car, driven by the 58-year-old foreign woman with her husband and their son as passengers, was heading towards Peyia from Agios Georgios area.
Initial investigations indicate that the 76-year-old victim was crossing the road from right to left – based on the vehicle’s course, police said.
He was rushed to Paphos General Hospital and was due to be transferred to Nicosia General Hospital because of the seriousness of his injuries. But he succumbed to his injuries just before getting transferred.
