Biker arrested doing 167 km on 50 km speed limit Nicosia avenue

Traffic police early on Sunday arrested a 26 year old biker who was doing 167 km per hour on Nicosia’s  Makarios Avenue where the speed limit is 50 km.

The incident occurred at around 2 am as the biker — who was not wearing a helmet —  refused to obey a signal to stop but sped off, driving reckless and dangerously, at one point entering the opposite lane  as he sought to get away.

He was finally stopped by Traffic Police who established that he had broken the traffic code 42 times.

He was arrested and taken to the police station where he was released to appear in court at a later stage. His motorbike was kept for checks.

A police announcement said that in other checks by traffic police islandwide, 57 drivers were booked for speeding, 15 for driving under the influence of alcohol and another 180 for various other traffic offences.
