Alarm bells ring in Cyprus as well now that Europe is running out of cold medicines

Relevant News

Alarm bells are ringing in Cyprus as well now that Europe is running out of medicines – especially antibiotics and antitussives (cold medicines) – in the midst of an unprecedented wave of respiratory infections and viruses.

The European Medicines Agency raised the alarm late last week by officially informing that in 25 of the 27 EU Member States shortages are already high and there are huge problems in treating patients.

In Cyprus, for the time being, shortages have not reported yet, according to Director of Pharmaceutical Services, Elena Panagiotopoulou.

She also told Philenews that such gaps are still adequately covered by the respective/generic preparations of Cypriot pharmaceutical companies.

But she did ring alarm bells stressing that the situation should be under constant surveillance and measures should be taken promptly.

“We should not expect Cyprus to be affected in a severe degree before we get prepared, a letter has already been sent to our local industries to inform us of the stocks of raw materials they have, so that we can generally plan properly as a state”.
