Akel-PTK parties have big role to play in divided Cyprus’ reunification process

Relevant News

Despite the prevailing political stalemate in divided Cyprus main opposition left-wing Akel party and the Turkish Cypriot Republican Turkish Party (PTK) have a big role to play in the island’s reunification process.

This is what Akel leader Stefanos Stefanou said in a party message which was read out at the 28th Congress of the PTK in breakaway northern Nicosia over the weekend.

Stefanou also said the revival of nationalism and chauvinism as well as the unacceptable position by Turkey and the incumbent regime in the north on a two-state solution is an undisputed fact.

“That’s why we must continue the titanic effort to convince that reunification based on a federal system is the only way to permanent peace, security and prosperity in Cyprus,” he also noted.

“We are certain that the solution of the Cypriot problem will be a victory in the hard struggle PTK is leading in a bid to safeguard the communal existence and will of Turkish Cypriots,” he added.
