Two dogs shot down in Astromeritis – Green party

Relevant News

The Movement for Ecologists – Citizens’ Cooperation brought to light on Saturday the murder of two dogs in Nicosia.

The party said that the two defenceless animals were shot down in the Astromeritis area on Friday, reportedly with a hunting rifle.

In a statement, the head of the party’s animal welfare team Anthi Mouzouri, noted that ‘repeated crimes against animals are highly disturbing and infuriating.”

She highlighted that just this week a number of foxes were found killed by hunters in the Kotsiatis area.

Mouzouri urged for a thorough examination of the two incidents until the culprits were identified and called on citizens with information to inform the police.

“These two cases are under police investigation, and we demand a thorough examination of the incidents until the culprits are identified. An appeal is also made to citizens who may have information about these two incidents to inform the police.”

The Movement for Ecologists – Citizens’ Cooperation expressed concern about the possession of hunting weapons and firearm ownership, citing incidents where animals were shot.

“Additionally, as the Movement for Ecologists – Citizens’ Cooperation, we sound the alarm regarding the possession of hunting weapons and, in general, firearm ownership. Within a few days, foxes and dogs were shot, and in the past, we have received complaints from citizens about similar incidents. This should particularly concern both society and the state because these weapons can easily be used against humans, as we have seen in the past.”

In conclusion, the Movement called on the Legal Service to seek the maximum penalty, including imprisonment for those responsible.

She concluded: “Finally, are we a civilized state or a cause for tears?”
