Three migrant boats seen approaching Cyprus

Relevant News

The Coast Guard and Marine Police have been placed on high alert after three more boats carrying migrants were detected off the coast of Cape Greco on Monday afternoon.

The boats were spotted on radar just hours after five other boats carrying 271 people arrived on the island.

The number of people on board the three new boats is unknown, but authorities are expecting a significant number.

Patrol boats are on their way to the scene to escort the boats to shore.

Cyprus is a popular destination for migrants seeking to enter the European Union. The island’s location, close to Turkey and the Middle East, makes it a relatively easy crossing point.

The government has been criticized for its handling of the migrant crisis, with some accusing it of not doing enough to help those who arrive on the island.

The government has said that it is committed to providing a safe and humane reception for all migrants, but that it is also working to deter further arrivals.
