Traffic cameras being installed in Larnaca and Paphos

Relevant News

Cameras positioned at four locations in Larnaca are now ready, and the official start date of their operation is likely to be announced on Wednesday.

Cameras in Paphos will be the last to operate, with the delivery time estimated in early 2024.

The cameras placed in Larnaca were inspected last Friday by the Department of Electrical and Mechanical Services, which is also the contracting authority for the project.

It was confirmed that they are functioning smoothly.

The system will be inspected by the Police to ensure that reported violations align with actual offenses.

If all goes well, a decision on whether the cameras will be officially put into operation, reporting drivers’ violations, will be made in a meeting tomorrow.

This could potentially happen from December 15, allowing time for drivers to comply with the Traffic Code and become familiar with the cameras.

Cameras have already been installed at the following four intersections:

  1. Spyros Kyprianou Avenue with Luther King: Four cameras have been installed.
  2. Archbishop Makarios Avenue with Filou Tsigaridi Street: Two cameras have been installed.
  3. Artemidos Avenue with Faneromenis: Four cameras have been installed.
  4. Eleftherias Avenue with Iliados and Spyros Kyprianou (Aradippou): Four cameras have been installed in the second phase.

As for Paphos, the installation of cameras has already begun, and their operation is expected before the first quarter of ’24. Their installation includes:

  1. Europa Avenue with Giannou Kranidioti and Georgiou Savva: Four cameras will be installed.
  2. Ellados Avenue with Dimokratias and Tassos Papadopoulos: Four cameras will be installed.
  3. Athinon Avenue with Christodoulos Sotiriou: Two cameras will be installed.
  4. Agion Anargyron Avenue with Spyros Kyprianou and Agapinoros: Four cameras will be installed.

Meanwhile, fixed cameras will be placed at five other points initially planned for photo-enforced intersections.

However, due to construction work, removal of lights, or reassessment, Traffic Police decided to install them at different locations, but not at traffic lights.
