The Sophia Foundation, boasting one of the largest and most significant collections of games in the world, collaborated with the Municipality of Aradippou and the “Children’s Museum of Cyprus” organisation to establish the small yet content-rich and symbolic Museum of Games in Aradippou in 2014.

The late Klairi Angelidou, a member of the foundation’s founding council in 2003 and also the then-president of the “Children’s Museum of Cyprus” organisation, had a special sensitivity towards childhood and children. She praised the foundation’s efforts and consistently supported initiatives related to the creation of a museum of games.

The Municipality of Aradippou, and particularly Mayor Mr. Evangelos Evangelides, embraced this effort from the outset, and auspiciously the Museum of Games in Aradippou celebrates ten years of operation. Recently, there was a redesign and reorganisation of the museum’s layout and collection. Visitors now have a comprehensive experience around the main categories of historically produced games and basic information about each category.

This, combined with the interactive programmes implemented in the museum under the guidance of educator Ms. Maria Irakleous and the substantial assistance of the museum’s director Ms. Elena Zamba, we hope to offer visitors, both children and adults, a unique experience, even with this small museum, particularly for Cypriot standards. Our concern and long-term goal are to create a Centre for Childhood where all the foundation’s collections related to children and childhood will be housed, featuring exhibition spaces and areas for research and study of games and their history.

The museum is visited daily by schools from all over the country and operates by appointment with a phone call to 24524601.
