Police said they have closed off a part of the Anthoupoli-Palaichori road in Nicosia to investigate an attempted murder that took place around 1 p.m. on Tuesday in the area.
According to information, shots were fired against a motorcyclist. The injured man was taken to the Nicosia General Hospital and is reported to be in critical condition.
Authorities are at the scene and have cordoned off the area.
Police said that the part of the road starting from the Anthoupoli roundabout, below the Nicosia-Kokkinotrimithia highway until the junction of the Anthoupoli-Palaichori road with the Agios Georgios Avenue has been closed.
Motorists are urged to use the Strovolou Avenue roundabout to Archbishop Makarios III Avenue in Lakatamia and then stay on Agios Georgios Avenue, until the junction of the Anthoupoli-Palaichori road which remains open.
