Pattichion Park redevelopment gets partial go-ahead after wildlife concerns

Relevant News

Plans to revamp Larnaca’s Pattichion Park near the Salt Lake hit a snag due to public opposition, but a recent agreement between the Larnaca Municipality and wildlife authorities has allowed some construction to resume.

The sticking point was a clause restricting construction during bird nesting season (January-June). While the Municipal Council halted work entirely in February, following environmental department advice, talks with the Game and Fauna Service clarified the condition.

Officials agreed limited construction could proceed between March and June, provided it doesn’t disrupt wildlife. A site visit confirmed this, allowing specific works to restart.

These include:

  • Repairing safety issues at the Pattichion Amphitheatre to ensure it’s ready for summer events.
  • Removing formwork at the cafeteria building.
  • Constructing parallel parking along Ipirou Street.
  • Building a modified car park near Artemidos Avenue, with fewer spaces to protect trees. Here, a pre-construction wildlife check will ensure no active nests are disturbed.

While the full redevelopment remains on hold, this agreement allows some progress and paves the way for further discussions.
