The House of Representatives unveiled a dedicated breastfeeding room on Thursday, in a move to support nursing mothers who work in or visit the parliament building.
The air-conditioned room provides privacy for mothers and their children, and features comfortable seating and designated areas for expressing and storing milk. It was constructed next to a kitchen area, adhering to guidelines for such facilities.
In a statement, the President of the House of Representatives, Annita Demetriou, said that the House is demonstrating its sensitivity towards breastfeeding mothers and infants and underlining the need to cultivate a general culture of breastfeeding.
Demetriou added that the room aligns with the House’s efforts to address challenges faced by working mothers, aiming to create a better work-life balance.
