New Protaras promenade to extend to Kapparis

Relevant News

Protaras is set to undergo significant expansion in the coming years with the creation of a new promenade.

The fourth phase of the project recently received final approval from the Department of Environment, paving the way for the realization of the extension.

The estimated cost of the project is around €20 million, with 66% covered by the state and the remaining portion by the Municipality of Paralimni.

Paralimni Mayor, Theodoros Pyrillis, shared with Phileleftheros that the intention is to open the bidding process around mid-2024, with construction expected to commence by the end of the year.

The project is anticipated to last 24 months, assuming no unforeseen issues arise during its execution.

The new addition to the promenade will stretch over 9 kilometers, beginning from the upcoming marina set to operate next summer and extending to the administrative boundaries of the municipalities of Paralimni and Deryneia, near the United Nations beachfront outpost.

Mayor Pyrillis stated, “With the completion of the promenade, individuals can travel from Kapparis to Protaras, either by bicycle, scooter, or on foot, without the need for a car.”

This development is part of a broader plan for the enhancement of the coastal zone in the Municipality of Paralimni and serves as a continuation of the third phase that initiated from the Golden Coast area.

The design includes a pedestrian walkway, a cycling lane, small platforms, seating areas, light structures, urban furnishings, and tree plantations.

Both the pedestrian walkway and the cycling lane will have a width of 8 meters (5 meters for the pedestrian walkway and 3 meters for the cycling lane).
