State officials will be able to renounce their pensions by law, according to the bill proposal prepared by DIKO and co-signed by DISY.
The bill proposal will be submitted in today’s session of the Parliament Plenary, aiming to address the issue of multiple pensions which has caused public outrage.
According to the bill proposal, new legislation is introduced, providing the opportunity for an official appointed or elected to a public position or office to submit a declaration renouncing their state pension for the period during which they will serve in that specific position to the relevant Minister.
Additionally, under the bill proposal, the renounced state pension will be transferred to the Fund of the Independent Social Support Body. It’s worth noting that the regulation includes a provision stating that if the official refuses to sign the renunciation declaration or revokes it, then Parliament will be informed.
The proponents estimate that this is a straightforward and constitutional regulation, which immediately resolves the issue of multiple pensions.
