New large-scale housing project planned for Dhekelia SBA

Relevant News

A £48 million contract has been granted by the UK’s Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) to construct new residences for service personnel and their families at Dhekelia Station in Cyprus.

According to UK media reports, the Lagan Iacovou Joint Venture (JV) will execute the project on behalf of the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) and UK Strategic Command as part of the APOLLO programme. UK Strategic Command has funded the initiative, delivered through the Defence Capital Infrastructure Programme.

The 138-house project will provide three- and four-bedroom homes designed for sustainability, featuring solar panels, air source heat pumps, and electric vehicle charging points. The houses are also seismically compliant, incorporating safeguards against earthquakes into their design.

As a component of the project, green, shaded community spaces will be established in front of the houses, while service roads will offer rear access.

The APOLLO programme is an initiative designed to enhance the resilience of critical UK military assets in Cyprus while meeting modern building regulations, rationalising the built estate, and facilitating modern ways of working.

It will modernise much of the British Forces Cyprus (BFC) and Sovereign Base Area (SBA) administration infrastructure and service family accommodation across Episkopi, Akrotiri, Dhekelia, and Ayios Nikolaos.

The contract award follows the completion of the first 34 SFA built under the APOLLO programme, which was handed over in June at RAF Akrotiri. A further 11 homes are expected to be completed at the same site next year.
