Mayor accuses of voter manipulation in Lakatamia

Relevant News

The Mayor of Lakatamia, Photoula Hadjipapa has made a very serious public accusation about attempts to manipulate election results by transporting voter carriers in the Municipality of Lakatamia.

She calls on the relevant authorities to ensure the smooth running of the elections.

“I express my deep disappointment at what has come to light regarding massive and illegal movements of voters in our municipality,” she states in a written statement, pointing to dishonest practices and urging citizens to “block”, as she puts it, the road in a coordinated effort to alter the election outcome.

Here is the Mayor’s statement in full:

“I express my deep disappointment at what has come to light regarding massive and illegal movements of voters in our municipality.

Already, citizens of Lakatamia have submitted numerous objections concerning people who have no connection to Lakatamia but have attempted to register, or have been registered, in our municipality.

As the Mayor of Lakatamia, I feel obligated to stand up for the citizens I represent, the actual residents and not the voter carriers, in the face of this distressing development.

It would be disastrous if even the slightest tolerance were shown towards such dishonest practices in this new chapter of Local Governance. Practices that undermine the democratic will of our citizens. The blow to our democracy would be immense.

I call on the citizens of Lakatamia, Tseri, and Anthoupoli Settlement to block the road in this coordinated effort to alter the election result.

I urge the relevant authorities to rise to the occasion and ensure the smooth conduct of the elections.

I will do everything within my powers, within my jurisdiction, to prevent such undemocratic, unethical, and unacceptable methods from succeeding. We do not play games with democracy.”
