Major Police operation to check foreigners in Paphos

Relevant News

A large and coordinated police operation aimed at preventing and detecting crime and checking foreigners to determine whether they are legally or illegally residing in the Republic of Cyprus was carried out this morning by the Police in the Paphos district, according to the Assistant Police Director of Operations, Michael Nicolaou.

The coordinated operation was carried out between the hours of 06:00-09:00 at various apartment complexes in Chloraka and Tremithousa. Initially, according to Mr. Nikolaou, the apartment complex “Agios Nikolaos” in Chloraka was checked for which there is a relevant decree prohibiting the settlement and residence of any person. A total of about 300 apartments were checked, Mr Nicolaou said, but without identifying any person residing in them.

Subsequently, searches continued at the “Agios Georgios” apartment complex in the Tremithousa-Emba area where 12 apartments were searched under a court warrant. A total of 40 persons were checked but nothing objectionable was found, the police spokesman said, either from a criminal point of view or from the point of view of illegal stay in the territory of the Republic of Cyprus.

Similar searches, Mr Nicolaou added, will be carried out in the near future.
