Legal service refers unlicensed nanny case back to police

Relevant News

The Legal Service has referred the case file involving the nanny who provided care for infants without a license back to the Police.

The investigations by the Nicosia Criminal Investigation Department (CID) concerned four complaints about infants displaying marks on their faces, examining cases of abuse, as well as the provision of care without a license by the Social Welfare Services.

The case file was forwarded to the Legal Service for study approximately a month ago. Yesterday, it was returned to the Nicosia CID with instructions, as indicated by the head of the service, Andreas Lambrianou, for further supplementary actions.

These actions mainly involve clarifications on certain points from individuals who have already given testimonies, added Lambrianou, without going into details.

The investigators of the case will proceed to implement what the Legal Service requested so that the file can be returned to the legal department for final decisions.

The case is considered challenging in terms of proving child abuse. However, the element of repeated incidents with marks on the infants will be crucial in making the final decision. Doctors who examined the infants have provided testimonies, while the nanny has denied abusing them from the outset, offering various explanations.

It is noted that the case came to light last December, followed by subsequent complaints.
