Larnaca mayor criticizes Kition over new marina fees

Relevant News

The intention of Kition Ocean Marina to impose new fees on the coastal boat operators operating in the protected pier of Larnaca Marina has sparked the anger of Mayor Andreas Vyras.

Speaking to philenews, Vyras did not hide his disappointment about the matter, which comes at a time when the investment is up in the air, and no one knows if the major projects will start in June.

“My basic principle is that no increase should be imposed on any user of the marina and the port, especially since the projects have not started. It’s unacceptable and provocative, they’re playing with our intelligence. The Ministry must take strict measures to prevent this.”

It is noted that, as revealed by Phileleftheros the contracting company announced to the boat operators in a letter dated April 18 that it will impose a monthly rent of €100 for the kiosks located at the entrance of the marina, even asking them to prepay for three months starting from May 1.

The boat operators were further informed that they must settle all their debts by April 30, otherwise the marina management has every right to remove their kiosks.

Mayor of Larnaca mentioned that he will arrange a meeting with the Boat Operators Association to be informed and will immediately propose to the Municipal Council to provide another space to the boat operators by the Municipality.
