Larnaca witnessed a surprising turn in the weather today as several areas, including Aradippou, Kiti, Pervolia, and Avdellero, were hit by hailstorms from early morning.
Images and videos shared by residents show the intensity of the hail, covering streets and gardens in white.
The Department of Meteorology had initially forecast isolated showers with a chance of a storm, particularly in the western half of the island. However, the weather took a turn, with local showers and storms making their presence felt more strongly in the eastern regions as the day progressed.
The unexpected weather conditions come as the region is under the influence of weak low pressure. The forecast also hints at the possibility of thin dust in the air come Sunday. Meanwhile, the snow depth in Troodos Square stands at two centimetres.
Looking ahead, the weekend promises periods of increased cloudiness with a chance of isolated showers, with temperatures expected to rise slightly but remain above the seasonal average.
The clear skies on Sunday will be interrupted by occasional increased cloudiness, maintaining the mild temperature trend.
Moving into Monday, expect a mix of medium and high cloudiness, with temperatures continuing to stay above the usual for this time of year, adding a touch of unpredictability to the island’s weather landscape.
