Hungarian foreign minister visits Cyprus

Today, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary, Péter Szijjártó, begins a working visit to Cyprus following an invitation from the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Constantinos Kombos.

During his stay in Cyprus, Mr Szijjártó will be received by the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides.

A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs states that during the visit, the two Ministers will have a private meeting, followed by extended consultations involving delegations from both Ministries.

After the consultations, the two Ministers will make statements to the media.

Subsequently, they will proceed to the building of the Hungarian Embassy in Nicosia, where an inauguration ceremony of the Embassy will take place.

At the heart of the discussions will be, among other things, the bilateral relations between Cyprus and Hungary, the Cyprus issue, as well as Hungary’s upcoming assumption of the Presidency of the Council of the EU in the second half of 2024.

The Ministers will also exchange views on current international issues, focusing on the situation in the Middle East and Ukraine.
