Historic Paphos station undergoes demolition

Relevant News

The relocation of Andreas Kommatos’ fuel station from Paphos’ commercial centre marked the end of an era and the familiar image that had been present in the heart of Paphos for decades.

With the station’s operations fully transferred to the new facilities on Apostolos Pavlos Avenue, towards the Kato Paphos harbour, for the past two days, the old station premises on Evagora Pallikaridi Avenue are being demolished, and the area now resembles a construction site.

The relocation of the first petrol station from Paphos’ centre, which has been operating on a Turkish Cypriot property since 1948, follows the longstanding efforts of the Municipality and other entities to gradually move such businesses out of the city’s central core.

After the business relocation and the ongoing demolition of structures in the city centre, planning is underway to include the area in the project for the Creation of the Paphos City Historical Documentation Centre, which is already being implemented, centred around the old Police Headquarters building on Kennedy Square.

The project officials once again expressed their gratitude for the significant contributions of the Turkish Cypriot Property Management Service, the Hellenic Petroleum Cyprus Ltd, and the station owner, Andreas Kommatos, to make this extensive plan possible.
