A high-powered explosive device was behind the bomb explosion at a well-known hotel in the tourist area of Pyla.
The explosion was noticed shortly after 02:00 in the early hours by the two security guards of the hotel under renovation, which was due to open next month.
The blast caused damage to the entrance and the reception area of the hotel. The scene has been cordoned off, and police pyrotechnics experts are on site collecting evidence, which will be sent for forensic examination.
Larnaca Police will take statements from the hotel owners in an effort to clarify the motives of the perpetrators.
