Health ministry seeks urgent warehouse relocation

Relevant News

The Ministry of Health has submitted a request for the urgent relocation of the medicine warehouse to the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Works.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Michalis Damianos expects to have a clear picture of how the management of the existing drug storage facilities has been handled from 2003 until now, once he studies the report of events requested to be prepared since last Friday.

After reviewing the report of events, Michalis Damianos stated, “We will also see if responsibilities arise and for whom.”

The process of recording the damage caused to the medicine warehouse that flooded on Clean Monday, as the Health Minister said, is ongoing. He clarified, however, that the drugs that have not been affected have been identified and moved to safe areas of the warehouse.

The Ministry of Health said, “Before the disaster, a relocation process had started, which, however, requires time to complete as we are talking about public tenders. For this reason, we invoked an urgent procedure of the public sector concerning building facilities and appealed to the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Works to grant us the right to use other government facilities.”

Regarding the details and the method of renting the facility housing the pharmaceutical warehouses, the Health Minister mentioned that “a report of events is always the beginning of an investigation. This report will record the events. It won’t be an analysis. We will see who sent which letter, when, and to whom. How did the recipient of the letter respond? Did he respond? If the sender of the letter made some remarks about the suitability of the facility and received no answers, did he follow up on this matter?”

“From there on, if responsibilities seem to arise, the next steps will be decided. We need to gather all the facts to see the reasons we have reached where we are today,” he added.

According to our information, the report of events was recently delivered to Michalis Damianos.
