Greek Prime Minister meets with UN Envoy

Greek Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, expressed Greece’s support for efforts to restart Cyprus talks based on the framework established by relevant UN Security Council resolutions during a meeting on Tuesday in Athens with the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy for Cyprus, María Ángela Holguín Cuéllar.

Mitsotakis welcomed Holguín at the Maximos Mansion immediately after her meeting with Greek Foreign Minister, Georgios Gerapetritis.

On Tuesday morning (6.2.2024), Foreign Minister Georgios Gerapetritis met with the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy for Cyprus, María Ángela Holguín Cuéllar, as part of her first round of contacts aimed at restarting negotiations to resolve the Cyprus issue.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Gerapetritis emphasized Greece’s strong support for efforts to restart negotiations based on the bicommunal, bizonal federation and the framework established by relevant UN Security Council resolutions.

He also stressed the need for every possible effort to achieve a just and sustainable solution based on International Law and European values.

The Foreign Minister conveyed the message that a solution to the Cyprus issue within this framework will create conditions for stability, peace, and economic development throughout the Eastern Mediterranean.
