The government has denied any knowledge of US missiles being transferred to Israel via its territory, according to a statement by the director of the press office of the President, Victoras Papadopoulos.
Speaking to CyBC radio, Papadopoulos also confirmed that no request for such an operation had been submitted to the Cypriot government, nor had any permission been granted.
When questioned about the possibility of this procedure being carried out through UK military bases on Cypriot soil, Papadopoulos declared ignorance.
However, he did reveal that the Cypriot government was not informed about the recent involvement of UK Typhoon warplanes, which took off from the Akrotiri base to intercept an Iranian attack.
Only after publications in the international press and subsequent communication between the Cypriot and UK foreign ministers was the Cypriot government made aware of the UK’s involvement, confirmed Papadopoulos.
