Government and DIKO seek relationship reset

Relevant News

The government and the DIKO party (Democratic Party) seek to reset their relationship following yesterday morning’s meeting at the Presidential Palace.

At yesterday’s meeting, the twelve members of the party’s Secretariat were present, providing them with the opportunity to express their concerns to President Christodoulides regarding the collaboration between the two sides.

Accompanying the President of the Republic was his director, Charalambos Charalambous, who recorded the discussions conveyed by the members of DIKO’s Secretariat.

According to our information, the meeting took place in a positive atmosphere, leaving both the leadership and members of DIKO satisfied with the outcome.

Both sides had the chance to voice their concerns and discuss how they perceived their relationship could be improved.

Information from Phileleftheros indicates that DIKO highlighted the need for improvement in their collaboration, both legislatively and in matters concerning citizens’ daily lives.

There was a call for better communication and coordination to achieve better results through consultation.

The President of the Republic listened to the concerns expressed, agreeing that the cooperation between the two sides could be further improved.

Meanwhile, Nikos Christodoulides requested assistance from the party’s executives in highlighting the government’s work to reach society and citizens, showcasing the policies and projects of the government.

Both sides expressed a desire for more regular meetings to discuss emerging issues and to ensure better coordination.

However, whether this will happen and how regularly it will occur remains to be seen.

What is certain is that following yesterday’s meeting, the leadership and members of the Secretariat left satisfied. At least, that’s the impression conveyed.

The relationship between the two sides has been tested recently, with strong dissatisfaction from DIKO regarding the lack of information from the government on significant issues, such as the recent reshuffle and appointments to the Boards of Semi-Governmental Organizations.

There was also dissatisfaction with the lack of information even after the measures for Turkish Cypriots were publicized by the President of the Republic.

This issue dominated the all-day session of DIKO’s Secretariat along with its parliamentary group, which took place in Limassol on Sunday.

During the session, some expressed strong dissatisfaction and complaints about inadequate information from the government.

Among DIKO members, there is intense discussion about the negative impact the government’s negative image has on the party.
