Forestry department: No fires allowed in countryside

Relevant News

The Department of Forestry of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment informs the public that setting fires in rural areas for burning weeds, pruning, or other objects is prohibited.

It is emphasized that setting fires anywhere in rural areas is prohibited except for cooking within specifically permitted and regulated areas located in organized excursion and camping sites. Setting fires within state forests or within 2km from their edges constitutes an offense punishable under the Forest Law of 2012, with imprisonment of up to 10 years or a fine of up to €50,000, or both penalties together.

Furthermore, the public is urged to use agricultural or other machinery that may cause ignition, such as those equipped with a fire extinguisher, to prevent the risk of fire and protect their property.
