The Fire Service is on heightened readiness in response to a yellow weather warning issued by the Department of Meteorology for today.
Fire Service spokesperson Andreas Kettis confirmed the department’s preparedness to handle any potential emergencies arising from the predicted isolated thunderstorms.
“We have equipment readied in our vehicles and an on-call team available for immediate deployment should the situation escalate,” Kettis said.
As of this time, the Fire Service has not received any weather-related calls. However, Kettis urged the public to exercise caution and strictly follow guidelines issued by the authorities if hazardous weather conditions develop.
This heightened state of alert comes in the wake of a recent severe storm that caused significant property damage, including flooding in homes, basements, and other buildings.
The yellow warning, in effect from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., forecasts isolated thunderstorms with potential localised rainfall exceeding 35 millimetres per hour.
The possibility of hail is also mentioned.
