Today, the Limassol Permanent Criminal Court expects the appearance of the 44-year-old driver of the pickup truck that caused the death of four victims in the fatal collision occurring 30 minutes after the new year’s arrival at a traffic-light-controlled intersection on the Limassol – Platres road.

During today’s procedure, the charges included in the indictment will be read to the 44-year-old, and he will be called upon to respond whether he admits or denies them.

The defendant faces 10 charges, 4 of which relate to the offense of manslaughter, which carries a life imprisonment sentence.

The other 4 charges concern the offense of causing death by reckless, careless, or dangerous act or behavior in violation of Article 210 of the Penal Code, and two charges for violating red and orange traffic lights.

During his detention and interrogation by Limassol Traffic Department investigators, the 44-year-old claimed that he passed through a green light at the time of the collision.

During the referral process of the case, the Police requested that the accused remains detained until the start of the trial, supporting the request due to the risk of the accused leaving the country.

The court approved the request. It was also pointed out that the detention period of 22 days was not excessive.

A significant element in the case is the video footage included in the evidence material.

The video captures the defendant’s vehicle being driven at high speed, violating the red traffic light, and colliding with the small red car of the 27-year-old involved in the deadly collision.

The quadruple fatal accident occurred 30 minutes after the arrival of the new year at a traffic-light-controlled intersection on the Limassol – Platres road.

The victims inlcude the two children of the Georgiou family, the eldest daughter Evanthia aged 27 and the younger son, Nicholas aged 17. Along with them were their grandparents, Nicholas Zavros and Vathoulla, aged 72 and 74 respectively.
