A court on Friday found a doctor guilty in the death in May 2018 of a 10-year-old boy who got injured while playing at his school yard in Alethriko, Larnaca.
And even though he was rushed to the coastal town’s first aid department the boy who had hit his head in the fall got dismissed shortly after being examined there.
However, Stavros Georgalli died a few hours later while undergoing surgery at Nicosia General Hospital.
The doctor found guilty is Heracles Pantelidaki who was a general practitioner at the time at Larnaca General Hospital’s First Aid Department.
A second doctor, Kyriacos Kyriakides, who was head of the Department at the time and also faced charges in this case was found innocent.
Both doctors had pleaded not guilty to charges of causing death due to reckless, negligent or dangerous act.
The court also said that the accused doctor had failed to carefully examine the X-ray of the young boy. He will be sentenced shortly, after his defence lawyers’ plea set for May 26.
