DISY leader calls on supporters to rally around party

Relevant News

DISY leader Annita Demetriou has called on party supporters to rally and protect their home, as she stated, criticising the timing that Tselepos and Koutsoftas chose for their actions, while avoiding directly responding to them.

Demetriou did not want to continue the subject yesterday when asked about it, emphasizing that everyone’s priority should be for the party to do well in the elections so that the country can prosper.

For this reason, as she said, those who care about DISY should stand by the party’s leadership and not against it. Noteworthy in her statement was her emphasis on the collective decision-making process regarding the elections.

Ehen asked about yesterday’s official announcement of Marios Tselepos’ candidacy for the presidency of the Paphos Regional Organisation against Kostakis Kostantinou, Demetriou stated that the party “moves forward united, strong,” and that “we will not engage in anything else other than substantiating with political positions and interventions because for us, it is paramount for DISY to do well in the elections, for the good of the country.”

She mentioned that the party governs based on policies and not personal matters, and that she will not allow any discussion that aims precisely at personal issues rather than political ones.

“It does not serve us at all at this moment, if we truly care about this coalition, to act in a way that damages this proud space, and I call on all alarmist friends to protect their home. DISY is not a personal matter for anyone; this party has principles and values and will uphold them for the good of our Cyprus above all,” she said.

The president of DISY was asked to comment on statements made by Tselepos and the member of the political office, Kleanthis Koutsoftas, specifically on insinuations they made.

Demetriou responded that “we have said from the outset that we are a responsible opposition and we have proven this over these months, and where support is needed, we will stand by, and where we disagree, we will step up even further.”

According to Demetriou, communication with the Government should exist and this has always been done by the opposition towards the Government, but this needs to be more correctly done with all political forces concerning major issues of the country.

“You understand that for these specific issues what is judged, if something like that were indeed true and bothersome, is the timing and the intention. Let’s leave it at that, and I will tell you that nothing more than what we have publicly stated, what we promote daily, is true, and there is no reason for shadows and insinuations,” she said.
