DISY has accused AKEL of instrumentalizing and politically exploiting what is happening at the Holy Monastery of Saint Habakkuk.
As the party points out in its announcement, “AKEL should be aware that there is already a bill in parliament for the regulation and control of donations.”
The announcement reads:
“At a time when Cypriot society is shocked by the revelations in the case of the Habakkuk Monastery, we note that AKEL does not miss the opportunity to apply its usual practice of instrumentalization and communicative exploitation of yet another issue.
AKEL should be aware that there is already a bill in parliament for the regulation and control of donations, aimed at enhancing transparency and accountability and ensuring that contributions serve exclusively the purpose for which they are made.
This is what needs to be discussed immediately, instead of raising issues to serve communicative or political expediencies.”
