“The parties DISY, DIKO, and EDEK rejected today in the Internal Affairs Committee the registration of the issue requested by AKEL regarding the economic exploitation of religious faith,” AKEL stated in a press release.
The statement continues:
“While Cypriot society is rocked by the revelations in the case of the Habakkuk Monastery, certain forces refuse to discuss these unethical and illegal practices. They deny that the State has a responsibility to prevent those who traffic in human suffering and to dismantle the charlatanism networks that exploit religious faith to make money.
Those who truly respect the religious sentiments of the people must be the first to oppose the practices of economic exploitation of these sentiments.”
