Deputy Attorney General appoints investigators in Saint Habakkuk case

The Deputy Attorney General of the Republic, Savvas A. Angelides, appointed Ninos Kekkos, Senior Prosecutor of the Republic, and George Papaioannou, Lawyer, as Criminal Investigators to conduct inquiries in collaboration with Police Investigators regarding any possible commission of criminal offenses in the case of the Saint Habakkuk monastery.

The announcement by the Legal Service:

Following an initiative by the Minister of Justice and Public Order, as a result of claims that came to his attention regarding the presence of police members and/or their involvement in the Habakkuk Monastery case, discussions were held between the Minister and the Attorney General of the Republic and the Assistant Attorney General of the Republic, aiming at both the seamless continuation of criminal investigations and the objective examination and assessment of the various conflicting claims put forward by the involved parties, which include allegations of involvement of police members and other individuals.

To ensure the above, the Deputy Attorney General of the Republic, Mr. Savvas A. Angelides, exercising the authority granted to him by paragraph (2) of Article 4 of Chapter 155, decided to appoint Mr. Ninos Kekkos, Senior Prosecutor of the Republic, and George Papaioannou, Lawyer, as Criminal Investigators, to conduct inquiries in collaboration with Police Investigators, concerning any possible commission of criminal offenses by any person.
