Cyprus linked to a terrorist attack in Moscow

Relevant News

Russian news platforms, as well as websites specializing in security and financial crime issues, put Cyprus in the frame of the investigations into the deadly terrorist attack in the international business center of Moscow and specifically in Crocus City Hall.

As Phileleftheros found out, several publications relay the same information (not citing the source) about our island. In particular, it is suggested that after investigations by the Russian authorities, in which agents of the FSB intelligence service were allegedly involved, it was found that a sum of money ended up in the form of cryptocurrency in the electronic wallet of a Russian businessman and then part of the money was found in the hands of the perpetrators of the terrorist attack. It is added that the person in question controls companies registered in Cyprus.

This information, which is being relayed by some online platforms, includes details but was not published in any of the well-known Russian media.

In one of the typical reports, reference is made to the role of a person with the nickname “Yulik London,” which – as noted – refers to a certain Russian businessman (his name is also mentioned). The latter was criminally investigated years ago by the Russian Federation for a case of possible embezzlement of more than €7.5 million and then allegedly fled to the UK. He is on the Russian Federation’s wanted list.

Of course, it is stressed that the businessman in question may have no connection with terrorist financing.

The relevant reports state that the above findings were the result of an investigation conducted by the Russian authorities on Friday 29 March at the premises of a cryptocurrency exchange in Moscow.

It should be noted that as reported last Wednesday by the TASS news agency, the Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia had sent a request for assistance to the US, Germany, France, and Cyprus regarding the terrorist incidents against Russia.
