Cabinet members rated in Phileleftheros public opinion survey

Relevant News

The performance of all members of the Ministerial Council and the President’s associates, regardless of their time in office under Nikos Christodoulides’ government, has come under scrutiny, in a survey conducted by Pulse Market Research on behalf of Phileleftheros.

Some former government members have garnered public approval, while others seem to struggle to convince the electorate of their capabilities.

On the other hand, new ministers have received low ratings, having had little time to showcase their work during their two-month tenure.

Topping the popularity charts within Nikos Christodoulides’ government is Konstantinos Ioannou, the Minister of Interior, as 50% of respondents hold a favourable opinion of him, while 24% express negative sentiments. His positive ratings are largely attributed to supporters of DISY.

Following closely is Athena Michailidou, the Minister of Education, with a 49% approval rating and only 21% disapproval. Her popularity is particularly strong among DIKO supporters, while it’s relatively lower within DISY and AKEL.

Completing the trio of popular ministers is the Minister of Labour, Giannis Panayiotou, who scored 41% positive and 22% negative ratings. Notably, decisions made by the Ministry of Labour have resonated positively with individuals over 40 years of age.

Ranking fourth is the government spokesperson, Konstantinos Letymbiotis with a 37% positive and 28% negative rating. Although well received in DISY and DIKO, there’s a significantly negative sentiment towards him within AKEL.

In the fifth position is the Minister of Finance, Makis Keravnos, with slightly more negative than positive opinions, standing at 37% and 39%, respectively. His approval is high within DISY and DIKO and among individuals over 60.

The Minister of Transport, Alexis Vafeiadis, follows closely with 36% positive and 26% negative ratings. Vafeiadis seems to have gained approval within DIKO.

Ranked seventh is the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Konstantinos Kombos, with a 35% positive and 27% negative rating. He manages to maintain a neutral stance within DISY supporters and those over 60.

George Papanastasiou holds the eighth position with 33% positive and 25% negative ratings. He enjoys strong support within DIKO and DISY, but less so within AKEL.

Although only serving as Minister of Agriculture for two months, Maria Panayiotou has garnered higher popularity than some long-standing government members, securing the ninth position with considerable approval.

Following her is the newly appointed Health Minister, Michalis Damianos, with equal positive and negative ratings of 28%.

Deputy Tourism Minister Kostas Koumis manages to slightly edge out positive ratings over negative, at 27% and 26% respectively.

Similarly, Deputy Shipping Minister Marina Hadjimanoli, also a long-standing government member, maintains a balance with 27% positive and 20% negative ratings.

Deputy Minister of Culture Vasiliki Kassianidou trails with a modest 26% positive and 19% negative ratings, with one in four respondents admitting they don’t know her.

Marilena Raouna, the Deputy Minister of European Affairs, who was recently appointed, receives positive feedback from one in four respondents, while one in five holds a negative opinion.

Mario Hartsiotis and Vasilis Palmas, the recent appointees to the Ministries of Justice and Defence respectively, fail to rank among the popular ministers of Nikos Christodoulides’ government.

Hartsiotis receives mixed opinions, with ratings ranging between 26% and 27%, while Palmas receives ratings ranging between 25% and 33%.

With just a 17% approval rating, the Deputy Minister of Social Welfare, Irini Piki, ranks lowest among government officials.
