Akan Kursat to be extradited to Cyprus

Relevant News

Within the current week, the Turkish Cypriot lawyer, Akan Kursat, who has been under arrest in Rome since New Year’s Eve for a case of exploitation and sale of Greek-Cypriot land in occupied Klepini, is expected to be transferred to Cyprus.

As stated to CNA by the Police Spokesman, Christos Andreou, through Europol, the Police were informed on February 2nd that Kursat has consented to his extradition to the Republic of Cyprus.

He must now be transferred to Cyprus within 10 days, Mr. Andreou explained, saying that they are in contact with the Italian authorities and are awaiting a date on which Cypriot investigators will travel to Rome to apprehend the Turkish Cypriot lawyer and transport him to the island.

Responding to a question about tomorrow’s judicial process in Rome, Mr. Andreou stated that after his acceptance of the extradition, the process will not take place tomorrow.

He also mentioned that upon his arrival in the Republic of Cyprus, Kioursiat will be arrested based on the national arrest warrant, will be detained, and then will be interrogated based on the charges of the case for which another person, the British Gary Romp, had been convicted.

The Police, he said, will also proceed with the examination of the dossier’s evidence to verify its validity.
