First same sex civil union ceremony in Greece

Relevant News

Two men got married at the Nea Smyrni municipality of Athens in the first such civil union since Greek parliament approved same sex unions last month in an ill-tempered debate, which saw MPs breaking party ranks for or against the socially charged bill.

Stavros Gavriliades and Dimitris Eleysiniotis got married noon yesterday in a close family affair at the Nea Smyrni municipal palace.

The couple has been together for more than 20 years and adopted three children, including twins. They followed the same sex union debate up close and personal, listening in from the parliaments’ visitors stands.
