The building complex of the American Academy in Achelia, near Paphos, has been acquired by Bright Era Education, a British-owned non-profit company.

According to an announcement, the Bright Era team have been working closely and effectively with the Ministry of Education to finalise plans.

Renovations on the picturesque nearly seven-hectare site will commence shortly.

Lumio Private School will open its doors to its first cohort of students in September 2024.

The school will function as a non-profit entity, with any surplus revenue being redirected back into the school.

“Prioritising our children’s education and reinvesting earnings into school and student development is paramount. Our mission is to embrace local and global cultures through high-quality education founded on respect for every individual’s unique identity and to ensure that teachers and students enjoy their time at school. We eagerly await the school’s September opening and remain dedicated to supporting educational initiatives for future generations,” Bright Era said.

The renovation plans include establishing modern classrooms, fully equipped science and IT laboratories, along with dedicated areas for the arts and athletics.

Various extracurricular activities, with a variety of sports courts, dedicated to tennis, football, basketball and volleyball will be available to the local communities.

The company said that Lumio Private School will offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, designed to provide students with a comprehensive and globally competitive education.

Instruction will primarily be in English, with supplementary lessons available to assist non-English speaking students.
