Electric vehicle incentive schemes draw interest

Relevant News

Figures from the Department for Road Transport show that there has been considerable interest in the electric vehicle subsidy programmes following the initiation of the application process on Saturday.

By Monday morning, there had been 984 applications lodged for the acquisition of new electric vehicles, 252 for scrappage and replacement with new low-CO2 emission hybrid vehicles, 44 for electric bicycles, and 230 for new electric machinery.

Additionally, 45 applications were made for scrappage in exchange for £250 vouchers valid for use on standard bus services, along with a one-off payment of £500.

Moreover, the 104 grants allocated for buying used electric vehicles have been fully allocated, along with the 30 grants designated for large families purchasing new electric vehicles.

The professional sector has also shown significant interest, with all four grants for acquiring new N2 category electric vehicles (commercial vehicles with a gross weight over 3,500 kg but under 12,000 kg) and both grants for new M2 category electric vehicles (small buses with more than eight seats) already claimed.

To date, there have been 23 applications for new electric taxis and one for the scrappage and replacement with a new low-emission hybrid taxi.

As of Monday morning, there remained numerous slots open for applications across various categories.

Applications can be made online via the Road Transport Department’s website until 11 October 2024, or until the allocated funds for each subsidy are depleted, whichever comes first.
