According to Filokypros Rousounides, General Manager of the hoteliers’ union, during the Christmas and New Year holiday, the occupancy of hotels was around 50%.
Rousounides added that before the big explosion of confirmed cases of the Omicron variant it became evident that people for Cyprus would seek accommodation for a short holidays, using the government’s plan. Unfortunately, he noted due to the epidemiological situation some people had second thoughts and many of them cancelled at the last minute.
In reply to a relevant question, he said that occupancy on the mountains was better and that was mainly due to the festive tourist villages that the Deputy Ministry of Tourism made.
He noted that no improvement is seen in January due to the situation prevailing not only in Cyprus but in Europe as well.
