The number and value of building permits issued in the first month of the year decreased compared to January 2023.
Specifically, as announced by the Statistical Service, the number of building permits issued by municipal authorities and district administrations in January 2024 amounted to 587 (from 590).
The total value of these permits reached €221.3 million, and the total area amounted to 198.2 thousand square meters. With these permits, it is projected that 834 residential units will be constructed.
Compared to the same month of the previous year, the number of building permits issued decreased by 0.5%.
According to the Statistical Service, the total value of these permits decreased by 8.3%, and the total area decreased by 2.4% on an annual basis.
The number of residential units also showed a decrease of 11.1%.
As the Statistical Service reminded, building permits are a significant indicator of future activity in the construction sector.
It is noted that in 2023, there was a decrease in the number of building permits compared to 2022, but an increase in value and area. Specifically, during the period from January to December 2023, 7,170 building permits were issued compared to 7,604 in 2022, marking a decrease of 5.7%.
However, the total value of these permits increased by 16.4% and the total area by 4.3%. The number of residential units also showed an increase of 12.2% on an annual basis in 2023.
