Only four out of 10 hotels in Nicosia currently in operation

Relevant News

Only four out of 10 hotels in the capital of Nicosia are now operating with the coronavirus having gravely affected them, Philenews reported on Monday.

“Only 40% of the capital’s hotels are open and it’s September, the month that under normal circumstances most hotels would open their doors,” Christiana Iacovidou of the Cyprus Hoteliers Association said.

“Nicosia hoteliers are not depending so much on tourism but on conferences and business activity…the pandemic has turned things upside down, the situation is really tragic,” she added.

And with coronavirus restrictions still intact in a bid to contain the spread of the pandemic it is still uncertain over what the near future holds, she also said.

Nonetheless, the government keeps offering support schemes to the island’s hotel industry in a bid to keep it alive and avoid a sharp rise in unemployment.
